New prized possession: Public Service Broadcasting Test Pressing

During RecordStoreDay2013 overnight queue-athon, I was introduced to a quite unique artist, who take samples from old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material – and carefully lays them over tracks of guitars, banjos, drums, piano and other electronic instruments.

Now, if you are thinking (as I did that evening) that this does not sound like your kind of thing – trust me, it is literally the most imaginative and ingenious thing I have heard in years – and trust me, you will fall in love with them.

So on to the possession, a test pressing of this years RecordStoreDay2014 release of “Elfstedentocht parts 1 & 2” that was sent to me by the very kindly by the man himself, J. Willgoose Esq. (and I mean it when I say that he possible one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet)

The single itself contains 2 tracks (Part 1 and Part 2 – does what it says on the tin) which are both about the Elfstedentocht, or Eleven Cities Tour, the world’s biggest ice-skating marathon – and were specially-written tracks for Explore the North Festival in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands – and therefore do not appear on the debut album “Inform-Educate-Entertain”.

I urge everyone to take the time to listen to these guys – even if it is not for you, the time and care that they obviously put into their music demands your attention.

They don’t have the biggest back catalogue at the moment, 1×12″ EP, 1 LP and a handful of 7″s – so a good time to start collecting:

And to Mr J Willgoose Esq., if you ever see this post, thank you for this – it is a great addition to my PSB collection.
